Debian Linux on the Fujitsu-Siemens LifeBook S5582
Edoardo Martelli
last update 27 july 2003
OS:
I'm using Debian GNU Linux
Unstable
and the 2.4.21 kernel: here the .config.
Hardware:
Sound card: Intel Corp. 82440MX AC'97 Audio Controller
USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82440MX USB Universal Host Controller
Graphics card: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M
FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394 Controller
Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C
Modem: Intel Corp. 82440MX AC'97 Modem Controller
hda: FUJITSU MHN2200AT, ATA DISK drive
hdb: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-S250, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
Sound card
It is a Intel Corp. 82440MX AC'97 Audio Controller. I compiled the
Intel
ICH (i8xx) audio support. It seems that using this driver it is not
possible
to adjust the frequency; maybe it works better with Alsa.
USB
The controller is an Intel Corp. 82440MX USB Universal Host Controller
- it works fine. I'vebeen using an optical mouse; a Philips
ToUcam PCVC730K; an Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48 model: CDRW55292EXT3-B
(but no more than 4x); a Nikon Coolpix 775 camera.
XWindows and Graphics card
ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M - I'm using Xfree 4.1.0 with this configuration file. I can use an external
USB
mouse together with the integrated mouse pad. Unfortunatly I'm unable
to
use the scroll buttons (wheel emulator) of the integrated mouse pad.
FireWire
Fire Wire IEEE 1394 Texas Instruments TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394 Controller:
it
seems to be recognized but I have nothing to test it
modprobe video1394
Ethernet controller
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C: ok.
Irda
It is recognized as /dev/ttyS3. I load this module:
modprobe irtty
irattach /dev/ttyS3 -s
I've succesfully connected my Psion and Nokia 6510 mobile phone. Here a simple perl script using Gnokii to save the SMSs as
emails
Integrated modem
Intel Corp. 82440MX AC'97 Modem Controller. It is recognized by the pctel driver.
But then it doesn't work
Pcmcia
Ok: I use a Lucent Orinoco WiFi card and a Belkin one (model no.
F5D6020), and Xircom CreditCard Modem 56-GlobalACCESS (model
CM-56G).
APM
apm -s works fine. Also closing the screen lid puts it in
suspend
mode; X recovers perfectly when opening it again.
